Description

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

We have wolves, cougars, black rats and rattlesnakes ingame. In real life they are among the extirpated species in New England.

Solution you would like.

Sources: https://www.mass.gov/service-details/mammals-in-massachusetts, https://www.mass.gov/service-details/amphibians-and-reptiles-in-massachusetts, https://www.mass.gov/doc/bird-list/download, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Fauna_of_New_England

Existing fauna which needs to be nerfed:

  • Wolves: Could be in zoos perhaps. And/or return a few years after the Cataclysm, provided the environment is still intact enough.
  • Naked mole rats are not native either. Could be replaced by other moles, e.g the star-nosed mole. Or did they escape from labs?
  • Black rats: Replace with mutated rats? I'd also have rats gorge on corpses, which could be true black rats with the blob fluid oozing all over them.
  • Cougars: Since biosignatures of them are found very, very rarely in New England, the spawn chance needs to be drastically reduced.
  • Rattlesnakes: Reduce spawn rate. They are endangered, also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fauna_of_Maine#Snakes
  • Caribou/Reindeer: Maybe not even native to Massachusetts but extirpated anyways.

Potential buffs in spawn rate:

New fauna that would make sense:

  • Turtles! Especially the common snapping turtles. Contrary to common belief, they prefer to flee rather than attack.
  • Lizards, newts, salamanders.
  • Some more snakes. There is apparently also the copperhead which is venomous.
  • Skunks. An obvious choice.

Feedback is much appreciated.

Describe alternatives you have considered.

Maybe I'll work on it after 0.G
